Highway Slaughter

I must get this dream, which I just woke from, into the universe so it’s not filling up so much of my head:

I was driving along a darkened highway at night when I noticed police freshly on a scene. Of course I had to look; a young girl, no more than eight years old, with her heart carved out of her chest and now resting within her motionless hands. Bright red blood was smeared everywhere. Horrified, I continue to drive, waved on by the police. I had not driven far when I reached the next scene; a man and a woman, limbs entwined, chest to chest. Their eyes bulged grotesquely from their sockets, and the man’s skull had split open, allowing his brain to spill onto the interstate. In the same moment, my son began sobbing from the seat behind me; I hadn’t had time to warn the boys to close their eyes, and now they had seen.

* Since awakening, my chest has hurt badly.

*This morning, I received my second round of OrthoVisc injections, administered to the medial side of each knee joint. I had to sit down again before I even left the exam room, and sat for 15 minutes in my car before driving. I’ve iced them on and off all afternoon.

        1. I’m only liking because I relate to the stress part as well. I sleepwalk as well, and managed to fall down a flight of stairs last fall, breaking my fibula and tearing all of my ankle ligaments, leading to 2 surgeries and PT, which just compound the stress! Have you ever found anything to help you manage stress, at least a little?? I’m always looking for new ideas.

Mostly running now that I can again. Swimming or basketball. Other than that I have to eat right or I’m a mess. And quitting drinking for the most part was a *definite* plus. It takes the edge off the nightmares. Sounds awful but…there you have it 😶

            1. Oh yes, physical activity helps so much! I had been interval running and hiking before getting injured, but other stress in my life overtook the benefit. I am really looking forward to reclaiming my favorite activities! Quitting drinking is an excellent one as well. Since I was on meds for a couple of months, I had to stop. My diet could definitely be better, especially caffeine consumption. It’s not awful at all, but honesty, and I appreciate that!

You will feel so much better when you aren’t on hold anymore! I’m currently trying to kick caffeine and every so often I have to sneak a diet pop when my daughter isn’t around! Her rule is “NONE A DAY!” She said she’d help and has definitely put the smack down on me. I’m finally coming out of the withdrawal headaches and crankiness so I’m sleeping better. A better schedule has lessened the shitty dreams as well.

                1. Oh I believe it firmly; not being allowed to do my favorite activity (hiking) during the best season for it was incredibly depressing. It feels like house arrest! I’m largely introverted anyway, but with that, it’s a choice. Huge difference. Your daughter supporting you made me smile. She sounds like my oldest son! My other two, though, are too busy trying to conquer each other, lol!!! Those caffeine withdrawal headaches SUCK. It’s crucial for better sleep, though, like you mentioned. I’m hoping my surgery follow up on Friday gives me full return to activity, and with that, craving for water over caffeine. Water is boring to me,so here’s to hoping!😎

Exactly. I got held up with my knee right at the most beautiful time of year..then came the snow and as a cartoon about Michigan stated nicely “a cold gray bucket of suck”….that’s the period between when the winter wonderland has passed and spring comes. So are you just waiting on a go ahead for activity now??

    1. LOL @ the Michigan cartoon! That’s excellent. I was terrified that I was going to be on crutches during snow and ice, but we amazingly bypassed it. *knock on wood since we can get snow in April!* Anyway, yes, that’s mostly the case; activity clearance, but we’re also keeping an eye on the piece of broken screw that had to be left behind with my hardware removal a month ago. Back in October, I had a plate and 4 screws in my ankle. 2 were supposed to be permanent, but I wanted the plate out because I could feel it right against my skin. During the operation, my surgeon realized that one of the temporary screws had recently broken and lodged itself into a space that would require a third surgery! 😒 I’m praying that never happens. I’m beyond over this.

      What happened with your knee?

Omg you’re like the terminator!! Next step is a titanium leg. You’d be crazy fast after that! We get snow here in april often, too and if it happens this year Im gonna start swinging. I am NOT feeling it this year! I think we talked about this stuff briefly before, I jacked my knee and leg up in a car wreck in october. I didnt need pins or anything. Just lots of pt time and gym hours. But i couldnt do much for a few months.

        1. I’m not LIKE the terminator, I AM the terminator! 😎 I’m actually on deck to get double knee replacements in 5 years (3 doctors have agreed, but insurances frown upping doing the surgery before 40 years old. It pisses me off.) In other words, airport security should be super exciting! 😉I’m glad you escaped the hardware with your injury! If you don’t mind, remind me where you’re from? I feel the exact same about the weather. We are SO damn close to escaping winter’s wrath! My doctor yesterday mentioned how she hopes it doesn’t snow again, and I told her to knock on wood. Do NOT tempt Mother Nature. Tell her she’s pretty and give her chocolate!
